Pilar de la Horadada is at the southern tip of the Vega Baja del Segura, Alicante province, right on the boundary with the Region of Murcia. It is a little over an hour by car from the city of Alicante (85 km), about 49 minutes from Alicante-Elche airport (76 km) and only 42 minutes from Murcia (54 km). The municipality had 23,844 inhabitants according to the INE on 1 January 2024 and takes in three centres: Pilar de la Horadada itself, Torre de la Horadada — with its 16th-century watchtower — and inland Pinar de Campoverde. Its coast holds six Blue Flag beaches, among them Las Higuericas, Las Villas, El Conde and Mil Palmeras.

Housing combines seafront apartments in Torre de la Horadada and Mil Palmeras with townhouses and villas in urbanisations across the municipality, including the quieter inland stretch of Pinar de Campoverde. The area draws both permanent and second homes, with a strong presence of foreign buyers. It has a health centre, state schools such as CEIP María Moliner, supermarkets and local shops, as well as the Lagunas de Lo Monte Municipal Nature Reserve and the pine wood that gives Pinar de Campoverde its name.
