Los Montesinos is inland in the Vega Baja del Segura, Alicante province, some 50 km from the city of Alicante and about 43 minutes from Alicante-Elche airport. It had 5,682 inhabitants according to the INE on 1 January 2024, in a municipality of 15.1 km². It has no beach of its own, but it is only 8 km from Torrevieja and 13 km from Guardamar. Part of the Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja Natural Park falls within its boundaries, with the Mirador de Las Salinas as a viewpoint over the lagoon and its wildlife.
The prevailing housing is townhouses and villas in residential urbanisations, both new build and resale, in a small municipality with low density by the standards of the district. Los Montesinos has a marked profile of foreign residents who have made it their first or second home, drawn by the quiet and by how close the coast is. It has a medical surgery, a state school (CEIP Virgen del Pilar) and local shops, with Torrevieja a few minutes away for wider services.
