San Javier lies in the Mar Menor district, in the Region of Murcia, some 92 kilometres from the city of Alicante (59 minutes), 84 from Alicante-Elche airport (51 minutes) and 45 from the city of Murcia (32 minutes). It has 35,872 registered residents (INE 2024) and 23 kilometres of coast on the Mar Menor and 16 on the Mediterranean, spread between the town of San Javier, Santiago de la Ribera and part of La Manga.
