Los Alcázares is in the Region of Murcia, on the shore of the Mar Menor, about 36 minutes by car from the city of Murcia (51 km) and some 26 minutes from Región de Murcia airport at Corvera (41 km); Alicante-Elche airport is a little further, around 55 minutes. It had 19,506 inhabitants according to the INE in 2024. Its town shoreline brings together Mar Menor beaches such as La Concha, Carrión, Manzanares, Las Palmeras, El Espejo and, in Los Narejos, Las Salinas, all with calm water and barely any swell.
Housing combines apartments facing the Mar Menor with townhouses and detached homes further into the municipality, offering both new build and resale. Los Alcázares takes in first and second homes alike, with a strong presence of foreign buyers drawn by the climate and the Mar Menor. The town has a health centre, state schools such as CEIP Petra Sánchez Rollán, supermarkets and a marina beside La Concha beach, as well as an aviation tradition that begins with its old seaplane base and continues at the nearby Academia General del Aire.
