Gran Alacant is an urbanisation in the municipality of Santa Pola, in the Baix Vinalopó, Alicante province, 5 km north of the Santa Pola town centre and right on the boundary with Elche. It is about 21 minutes by car from the city of Alicante (15 km) and only 8 minutes from Alicante-Elche airport (8 km). It spreads between the hills and the sea, with El Carabassí beach as its landmark and more than thirty residential sectors, among them Bahía Playa, Montefaro and Vista Bahía.
The prevailing housing is townhouses and villas on their own plots, alongside apartments in the areas closest to the coast, mixing new build and resale. Gran Alacant has a strong presence of foreign residents and buyers of both first and second homes, drawn by how close the airport and the beach are. It has a state school, a municipal office, a shopping centre with a supermarket and its own medical surgery, with the Santa Pola health centre as its reference, and the Salinas de Santa Pola Natural Park a short distance away.
