Property for sale in Orihuela (ciudad)

Orihuela is the capital of the Vega Baja del Segura district, inland in the province of Alicante, on the river Segura. Its town proper has some 32,900 residents, out of 85,674 across the whole municipality, which also takes in Orihuela Costa —a good half hour away by car, on the coast— and around twenty villages. It lies 59 kilometres from the city of Alicante (47 minutes by car), 51 from Alicante-Elche airport (36 minutes) and 38 from the city of Murcia (32 minutes). The old town, a listed historic site, holds the cathedral, the bishop's palace and several convents.

Housing is mostly resale, with flats in the old town and the newer part of the city. It is an area for buyers looking to live here year-round, with the Hospital Vega Baja as the reference hospital and the transport and shops of a mid-sized city. Orihuela is also the birthplace of the poet Miguel Hernández, whose house museum is open to visitors.
