Altea is in the Marina Baixa, in the north of Alicante province, and its municipality covers around 34 km². The INE counted 24,592 inhabitants in 2025. It is a coastal town with more than six kilometres of shoreline, where you will find La Roda, Cap Negret, l'Olla and Mascarat. The old town, all narrow streets and white houses, looks over the bay; beyond it lie Altea la Vella and residential areas such as Sierra de Altea, Altea Hills and Mascarat. Alicante-Elche airport is about 40 minutes away.
If you are looking to live here all year, there is a health centre, primary and secondary schools, supermarkets, buses and the TRAM. Housing varies a good deal by area: apartments and blocks along the seafront, while Sierra de Altea, Altea Hills and the other hillside sectors are mostly detached homes; Mascarat mixes apartments with detached housing. The resident profile is international, and permanent and second homes sit side by side. You also have Altea Club de Golf, the Club Náutico de Altea, Marina Greenwich and the Serra de Bèrnia close by.
