Rojales is inland in the Vega Baja del Segura, Alicante province, crossed from west to east by the river Segura. It is about 45 minutes by car from the city of Alicante (42 km), only 33 minutes from Alicante-Elche airport (49 km) and some 46 minutes from Murcia (59 km). The municipality had 17,162 inhabitants according to the INE on 1 January 2024, of whom around seven in ten were born outside Spain, with residents of 74 different nationalities. The old town keeps the Cuevas del Rodeo, former cave houses carved into the rock beside the river, today a cultural space.
Housing is split between the old town and numerous residential urbanisations, with townhouses and villas the prevailing type, in both new build and resale. Rojales has a marked profile of foreign residents in first and second homes, within a very international community. The municipality has an integrated health centre, state schools such as CEIP Poeta Miguel Hernández, supermarkets and local shops, as well as the 18-hole La Marquesa Golf course within its boundaries.
