Calpe is in the north of Alicante province, in the Marina Alta, about 50 minutes by car from the city of Alicante and a little more from Alicante-Elche airport. It had 27,616 inhabitants on 1 January 2025 according to the INE, and its shoreline runs to 13 km with 14 beaches and coves, among them La Fossa (or Levante beach), Arenal-Bol and Cantal Roig. The Peñón de Ifach, a natural park rising 332 metres above the sea, defines the town's profile, which also keeps an old quarter of narrow streets and painted stairways.
Housing combines seafront apartments with townhouses and villas in urbanisations such as La Manzanera, designed in the 1960s by the architect Ricardo Bofill on the terraced ground above the coast. Calpe draws both permanent and second homes, with a marked presence of European buyers. The town has a health centre, state schools, supermarkets and the Real Club Náutico de Calpe as its marina, all within a centre that works all year, not only in summer.
