La Fossa — or Levante beach — runs from just north of the Peñón de Ifach to the Calalga cove: 950 metres of fine sand and about 40 wide, with a Blue Flag and a promenade of restaurants, ice-cream parlours and shops. It is urban seafront, with views of the lesser-known face of the Peñón, and the Calpe salt flats lie behind it.
High-rise buildings predominate, between hotels and apartment blocks, with the Torres Gemelas on Avenida Juan Carlos I among the most recognisable. That skyline comes from the building expansion of the 1990s and 2000s, when greater heights were allowed on the seafront. It is an area with life all year round and the full services of an urban beach: lifeguards, assisted bathing in summer, a children's area and adapted access.
