Villamartín lies inland, a few kilometres from La Zenia beach, and the development began in 1972 around Villamartín Golf, an 18-hole par 72 course designed by John Putman. It is an area of residential streets and developments that have filled in steadily since then, with no beachfront of its own.
Housing mixes apartments, villas and townhouses across the neighbourhood's streets, mostly low-rise. The centre of social life is Villamartín Plaza, with shops, bars and restaurants on two levels around a central courtyard, which also hosts live music in summer.
