Los Estaños is not one development but several. They sit west of the town centre, on the far side of the N-332, in the part of the municipality that faces the river Segura and the pine forest rather than the sea. That road in between is what defines the place: it stays clear of the town's comings and goings, which is exactly what draws people here.

Inside you will find everything, and that mix is the point: apartment blocks with a communal pool, bungalows, duplexes and detached villas, depending on which development you look at. El Edén is the best known of them, so much so that many listings use its name for the whole area.

What there are not is shops. There is a park, and a grill restaurant has been open for years in the Edén del Mar shopping precinct, but the daily shop means going into town, a little over a kilometre away: a quarter of an hour on foot, or two minutes by car. It is worth knowing before you buy, because it is the difference between here and the centre.

In exchange you live inside the pine woods, with the beach some two kilometres off and the forest paths starting at your door.
