Playa de San Juan stretches north of the city of Alicante, between Cabo de la Huerta and the boundary with El Campello. The whole sweep of sand measures 6,200 metres, of which 2,900 lie within Alicante — the rest is Muchavista beach, in El Campello — averaging some 90 metres wide since the 1991 regeneration. It has held the Blue Flag for forty consecutive years: one of only seven beaches in the world to manage it unbroken. The tram gets you here on lines L1, L3 and L4, as do buses from the centre.

Apartment blocks predominate, with the occasional detached house, in an area that began in the 1920s as a summer retreat for industrialists from Alcoy and Elda and that now lives all year round. Inside the neighbourhood itself is Alicante Golf, 18 holes and par 72 designed by Severiano Ballesteros, where building work uncovered the remains of a 1st-century Roman villa, preserved within the course beside the 14th hole. Around it, hotels, restaurants and the shops of an established seaside district.
